"Dear Ann and Jay, I just want you to know that you were amazing camp parents to me. Ever since my first year at Roots & Shoots, you have made me feel so secure and welcome.  Manners, trust and most importantly friendship are the three main things you have taught me over the years, and you have been a huge part of my life."   - Camper | Newport News, VA

ANN M. WARNER - Director

Camp Mont Shenandoah is in Ann’s blood.  Following in her grandmother’s and mother’s footsteps, she marks the third generation of ownership of the 89 year old camp.  She has spent 29 summers at CMS as a camper, counselor, program director and now owner and director.

Ann is a graduate of Hollins College (1987) as well as St. Timothy’s School in Baltimore (1983).  While working as the Director of Youth Ministries at Christ Church (Old Town, Alexandria, VA,) Ann became a “foster” parent to two teenage girls, living with them as they finished high school.  They (along with their older brother and families) continue to be an important part of Ann’s life.

In 1996, Ann received her Master’s in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.  That spring, she and her former husband relocated to Bath County, Virginia to assume the directorship of CMS, a position she thoroughly enjoys and relishes.

Ann is involved in many local and regional civic organizations.  She serves on the Allegheny Highlands Free Clinic Board, the Cowpasture River Preservation Association Board, the Christmas Mother Board (having been Christmas Mother in 2001) and volunteers for the Virginias Section of the American Camp Association as the Complaints Resolution Chair.  She is a lay reader and Eucharistic minister at St. Luke’s Church in nearby Hot Springs.   She has served on the St. Luke’s vestry, the Bath County Chamber of Commerce Board and as a Bath County High School mentor.

Ann enjoys many activities and hobbies, especially running, biking, traveling and reading.  She competed in her first triathlon on opening day of camp this summer.  She loves spending time with her friends, family and animals and is especially fond of time spent on the back of a horse.

Program Director

Mary (Lewis) Curry, a former CMS camper, Junior Counselor, and Counselor, will return in 2012 for her second year as Program Director. Her husband, Peter, will be joining the CMS family again this year as well.

Mary graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She worked in Scotland for the National Health Service before moving to New Zealand in 2003. She lives in the capital city, Wellington, where she works as a project manager. Her hobbies include cooking, gardening, and reading, but with a baby on the way (due in April!), these will likely be shelved for a wee while in favor of taking care of the new arrival! Once in the United States, Peter will take on a new role as a Stay-at-Camp Dad while Mary manages another fantastic summer as Program Director.

CATIE KEIGER – Assistant Director

For more than 13 summers Catie attended Camp Mont Shenandoah as a camper, counselor and administrative staff member. This summer she returns to camp as our Assistant Director for 2013! After a 9 year career as a Realtor, Catie has become a Bath County resident and will be living in Warm Springs with her yorkie Sophie. Born and raised in Richmond, Catie is a graduate of St. Catherine's School and she attended Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Commonwealth University. She loves the outdoors, the Cowpasture River and all things for the home!

JAMI FUSSELL – Office Manager, Marketing Assistant and Creative Consultant

Jami is an all-around outdoor lover. From the time she was old enough to walk she’s been camping, hiking, and exploring the outdoors. She did most of her growing up in Colorado, but graduated from Myers Park High school in Charlotte, NC. She attended Appalachian State University where she studied Communications, Photography and unofficially, skiing. After college, she went on to travel the world as a flight attendant for 8 years.

She has two sons, Coult and Pierce. Together, they spend lots of time exploring , camping,  cooking, gardening, kayaking, skiing and reading. They live in Hot Springs with two cats, Jasper and Jigsaw (who was adopted from camp in 2012!). In her spare time, Jami pursues her interest in photography, travel and writing children’s stories.
