As the bell rang on Friday, every girl woke in anticipation of the night to come. The day of classes flew by as each cabin perfected their moves for the highly anticipated evening activity—Lipsync. Though each cabin’s goal is to win and gain a spot in the Lipsync hall of fame, camp remained in good spirits throughout the day. Walking around, one could’ve found multiple cabins working harmoniously, but vigorously, to create that lip sync magic. As the evening finally arrived, each cabin came to West Lodge dressed in costumes, and the show began. Each and every performance was outstanding, and it was a hard task for our judge, William Carrington, to choose winners. Though each cabin did an outstanding joy, winners from each cabin group were carefully chosen. Congrats the Wee Women, 2 Down, 2 Up, and TipTop! With time left over after all the cabins performed, all of camp, including our renowned judge William, joined in a quick, but energetic, dance party. Completely danced out, we all went to bed happy (and maybe a little sweaty.)
Saturday was no less exciting or tiring, starting off with the long anticipated team comp, the Swim Canoe meet. Even though everyone was tired out from our previous dance escapes, the teams’ spirits did not suffer for it. Equally impressive was the team’s spirited reactions to the day’s weather. Though it was a rainy day the teams both continued to swim, canoe, and cheer throughout the morning. The Swim Canoe meet is one of the longest and most tiring team competitions, but the campers gave it their all and both teams emerged victorious with the Buffs winning swimming and the Greens winning canoeing! As a pre-dance treat (little did they know!) The campers and counselors alike were surprised with a two hour rest hour to recoup and rest after a tiring morning. The dance with Riversbend was announced after rest hour with a classic psych-out. After inviting the whole camping into West Lodge for “Zumba” Elle Langley and Margaret Williamson, our heads of Dance, announced that the BOYS WERE COMING!!!
The next few hours were filled with army bathing, getting dressed and ready, and an anticipatory and rowdy dinner. At around 7:30, Riversbend arrived, and the fun began! Like always, Riversbend was soooo dreamy, and we danced the night away, ending with the famed Dream Couple competition. We wished the boys a goodnight and farewell by singing to them and inviting them into our Friendship Circle. We were all truly sad to see them go.
The excitement from the previous days did not end on Sunday! The beginning of the day went like most Sundays do. Assembly in the feedbag, spot inspection, Church, and lots of free time. Church this week was led by the fifteen year-olds in TipTop and The End. Each girl was tasked with choosing a quote that had some significance to her, and reflecting on how and why that quote is related to her time here at CMS. The different quotes allowed for all the fifteen year olds to show their individuality while also remaining a cohesive, and impressively reverent, group.
After Sunday Lunch (yum!) and rest hour, campers were given free time to spend around camp. All the counselors were in charge of different activities that campers could wander to depending on how they wanted to spend their afternoons. The Beehive and West Lodge were open for crafting and zumba, respectively, and both the tennis and basketball courts were full of activity all afternoon.
As the bell rang for dinner, all Juniors in Camp Crafts headed down to the waterfront to begin the Junior Overnight. The girls started with free swim and bathing in the river, and then a delicious dinner of hotdogs, chips and watermelon. For dessert they roasted marshmallows over the fire and had s’mores. While the Juniors camped down at the waterfront, Senior Soccer was happening across camp at the LHS field. Both teams gave it their all and had an amazing time playing and cheering, and ultimately the Green Team scored the winning point! Two friendship circles happened Sunday night, one at the waterfront and one on the LHS field, and both groups went to bed happy.
Unfortunately, for the third year in a row (crazy!!) the Junior Overnight got rained on, and all participants, campers, JCs, and counselors alike, had to make the long trek to West Lodge. Inside West Lodge, safe from both bugs and rain, the Junior Overnighters spend the rest of the night.
Monday was another exciting and choc-full day. Many campers spent their morning shooting in the Archery Tournament. Congratulations to the Greens for winning with their excellent shooting! Monday’s evening activity, originally planned to be Junior Wiffleball, was changed to another Practice dance due to inclement weather, and, as always, it was so much fun! A lot of what we do here at CMS is dress up silly and DANCE! As always, everyone was tired out after a long day of classes and a long night of singing and dancing. After such an exciting and busy few days, each cabin went to be ready to rest up for another exciting week of camp fun!
