As soon as the bell rang on the morning of the Fourth of July, every camper sprang from their bed and quickly changed into their red, white, blue. Campers and counselors arrived at flag raising clad in USA fanny packs, American flags, and many witty t-shirts. After the Pledge of Allegiance, “Fireworks” by Katy Perry filled the air and a dance class flashmob took over.
After a classic Fourth of July flag raising everyone was excited and ready for a fun day. In classes we played USA themed games and enjoyed the morning before rain. However, despite the rainy weather we still managed to have a fun afternoon. Every camper headed over to West Lodge after Rest Hour to watch the movie “Pacifier” while waiting out the rain. After dinner we had our beach party and everyone was able to jump in the water for free swim. After everyone changed they went back over to West Lodge for carnival games and fireworks. The counselors spent the afternoon decorating USA cakes and every camper was able to enjoy a peeve and a scoop of ice cream. We set up many games and loud music was pumping. After the sun set, to end the night we had a beautiful fireworks show put on by the boys from the kitchen. The day was filled with spirit, lots of Red, White, and Blue, and most importantly lots of sweets to celebrate!
On Friday we had a full day of classes so everyone was having an active day after the rainy night before. At night, what was supposed to be Sr. Softball for the evening activity had to pivot to a cozy up because of the rain. This means that everyone went to their cabins to put on their comfiest outfit and brought down coloring sheets, cards, books, and music to West Lodge. It was a great chance for people to hangout with their friends and have a chill night after a busy week.
After a restful night the activities began again on Saturday morning for a full day of Senior Deck Tennis and Junior Kickball. We were able to finish it all before lunch and the teams had a blast spending the morning watching, cheering, and playing. The Greens won Junior Kickball, Outs Deck Tennis, and Ups deck tennis.
Saturday night we picked up the team activities again for Senior Softball! After it being postponed the night before we had everyone come back out in their Buff and Green for the third team competition of the day. The Buffs took the victory in Ups Softball, however due to the setting sun we had to finish the rest of Outs Softball on Sunday afternoon and the Greens won. Everyone did a great job and despite the taxing day the team spirit remained high!
Sunday is always a relaxing day to end the week. Deerwood led church Sunday morning. At lunch we had our highly looked forward to Sunday ice cream cones. At night each counselor set out to their hiding spots and all of camp searched for them for Counselor Hunt. The counselors got very creative hiding all around camp in the woods, under porches, and on top of buildings. All groups found some counselors and the winning group was able to find 147 points of camp years from counselors.
I am sure everyone slept well that night after a full week of fun and busy activities, excited for the final week of the First Three Weeks to come!
